U.S. blocks settlement of Palestinian crisis: Fatah head
TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (MNA) -- Farouk Kaddoumi, chairman of the Fatah Movement’s central committee, says the U.S. prevents the resolution of the Palestinian crisis.
In an interview with the Tehran Times, Kaddoumi said that the Middle East peace process faces numerous problems due to the U.S. biased policies toward Tel Aviv.
Khaddoumi arrived here on Monday for a three-day official visit with Iranian officials.
The Palestinian official argued that Washington refuses to take any serious measure to reactivate the peace process.
Kaddoumi added that the concessions that Washington granted to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on April 14, 2004 actually made the Middle East peace process diverge from its positive direction. The Palestinian official didn’t elaborate on the concessions.
Kaddoumi inherited the duty as chairman of the Fatah movement following the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on Nov.11, 2004.
Kaddoumi said his regional trip is aimed at expanding relations with Islamic and Arab states.
“We call on these countries to give international support to the resistance of the Palestinian nation that has long suffered from the violence and aggressions of the Zionist regime,” he stressed.
Kaddoumi discussed regional developments and the situation in Palestine with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and other high-ranking officials in Damascus before his visit here.
Asked on the future of Palestinian resistance groups particularly those outside the occupied Palestinian territories, he said that some members of the resistance groups are currently in Syria but other leaders of the resistance groups reside in some other Islamic and Arab states.
The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) enjoys very good relations with these groups because they are part of Palestine’s national movement heroically resisting the Israeli occupation, the official went on to say.
Kaddoumi said that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state will be announced in the year 2005.
He added that the political situation in Israel has reached a critical stage due to rising political disputes within the establishment.
“The Zionists seek ways to escape from international pressure so we will soon witness the pullout of Zionist troops from parts of occupied territories in Palestine,” he commented.
