John Negroponte, implicated (and also indicted I suspect) for multiple human rights violations in the support of both death squads and the contras in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Honduras, was near-unanimously confirmed by the Senate to be the next ambassador to Iraq. The full vote was 95-3, with two people not voting.
The three dissenters were Senators Dayton, Durbin, and Harkin.
Not voting were Kerry and Thomas.
