Neocons claim another victim February 12, 2005, 04:25:18 AM PST[/size] The recent resignation of Kevin Shelley, secretary of state, was a great loss to the state of California. Shelley was a scrupulously honest and dedicated man who fought the special interests by insisting on the validity and accountability of the Diebold electronic voting machines, and by implementing the Voters' Bill of Rights and the Inventors' Bill of Rights. Shelley's resignation was forced by a vendetta of trumped-up charges over the past several months which were, most likely, politically motivated. It would appear the same neoconservative Republican group that succeeded in recalling Gov. Davis is responsible for the forced resignation of Shelley. That gave Gov. Schwarzenegger the opportunity to nominate a new secretary who will do the will of the special interests. The Democratic legislators who failed to defend Shelley must show some backbone and demand that Schwarzenegger's nominee for secretary of state will have the same proven competency and impeccable integrity as Shelley.
