Too Late to Avoid Neo-con Nihilism?
Paul Craig Roberts has echoed (more or less) what I have said over for the last week or so, with one important exception:
John Bolton is to be Deputy Secretary of State. Bolton is the person who wants the U.S. to invade Iran. The few officials who are not warmongers, such as Secretary of State Colin Powell and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, are leaving the Bush administration. Right before our eyes, the CIA is being turned into a neoconservative propaganda organ as numerous senior officials resign and are replaced with yes-men.
I’d dispute Roberts’ assertion that Colin Powell is not a warmonger—it was his dog and pony show at the United Nations that nudged the United States closer to the invasion of Iraq. Powell did, however, call it as he saw it, especially in regard to the lunatic Strausscons. Powell would have been a better fit in the Clinton administration or a Kerry administration had the election not been stolen. Of course, even if Kerry had won, the United States would still be in Iraq. Nothing would have changed there.
As for Richard Armitage, he is a PNAC Strausscon and former board member for CACI, the private military contractor, which “is being investigated by no less than 5 US agencies for possible contract violations” and “employed four interrogators at Abu Ghraib prison” in Iraq, as Disinfopedia notes. Armitage is also an Iran-Contra criminal. His depature means there is one less Strausscon in the government, although there are plenty to do harm in his stead.
As for Bush’s stacking the deck at the CIA, this is certainly dangerous—not that the spook agency’s reservations about the Iraq invasion actually changed anything. As I said earlier, Porter Goss’ changing of the guard will simply mean that the CIA will now become Feith’s Office of Special Plans on steroids. Lies are lies, no matter who tells them. Regardless, Bush will get whatever he wants—or rather what the Strausscons want since Bush is essentially a puppet on Dick Cheney’s strings. Like I said the other day, Dick Cheney owns this place, now more than ever.
With its current troop strength, the Bush administration cannot achieve the Middle East goals it shares with the Israeli government. Either the draft will have to be restored or mini-nukes developed and deployed. [Clearly, this is what the Bush neocon regime has in mind, having gotten congress to approve their use, with votes of "moderates" Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine] As insurgents do not mass in military formations, the mini-nukes would be used as a genocidal weapon to wipe out entire cities that show any resistance to neocon dictates.
I believe the American people are clueless as to what this really means.
If Bush resorts to the use of “mini-nukes” (and the prefix “mini” by no means makes these horrific devices any less scary), he will certainly be considered on par with Adolf Hitler and Joesph Stalin, both responsible for killing millions of innocent humans in genocidal fashion. It is incorrect to characterize the Strausscons as fascists—and I am guilty of calling them such—rather they are nihilists, defined by the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language as a “rejection of all distinctions in moral or religious value and a willingness to repudiate all previous theories of morality or religious belief” and a “belief that destruction of existing political or social institutions is necessary for future improvement.” Nihilism is the foundation of Leo Strauss’ philosophy.
Bush’s reelection, if won fair and square, was won because 20 million Christian evangelicals voted against abortion and homosexuals. However, Bush’s neoconservative masters will use his reelection as a mandate for further violence in the Middle East.
They intend to set the U.S. on a course of long and debilitating war.
Spot on. However, if there is any hope in the above, it is that the American people, or a significant portion of the American people, will strike out against this lunacy and foment a revolution, as Thomas Jefferson said must happen when the government becomes a tyranny, as most governments eventually do. It’s looking more and more tyrannical every day. Of course, passive TV watchers and football spectators make not revolutionaries, especially the plastic flag-wavng and “support our troops” bumpersticker variety. On the other hand, once the public better understands what the Strausscons have in mind—throwing their lives or the lives of their children into the meat grinder maw of total and endless war—
they may organize to get rid of Bush, the Strausscons, and their fellow travelers in Congress, although this will become more difficult and perilous as the government continues to build a repressive surveillance state and eviscerate the Bill of Rights.
Goss’ purge of the CIA—and the demand for loyalty on the part of the ranks for the Strausscon master plan—is as much about eradicating dissent at home as “reshaping” Muslims abroad.
It may be too late. It really is beginning to look like Americans will share the fate of the “Good Germans,” who went along with Hitler and the Nazis to the bitter end, either too cowed, stupid, or herd-like to resist the madness that eventually enveloped and destroyed them. Imagine the Nazis with “mini-nukes.”
It’s almost too horrific to imagine.
