This article was included in USC's Public Diplomacy Newsletter, as bona fide info. I am posting it in Political Discussions, because the Democratic Party, and the Unions, have become simply branches of the NED. And we Americans are at their mercy the same as people in foreign lands.
Dirty Jobs and Money Laundering
By Angel Rodriguez Alvarez / 19-07-2005
The United States Central Intelligence Agency needs no introduction. Since its very foundation it has been notorious for its involvement in attempts to subvert order or topple governments that are not akin to the interests of US Administrations.
It has been a long time since the CIA limited itself to the intelligence gathering functions that led to its origin. Instead, it became a parallel subversive state, practically beyond the control of Washington's ruling circles.
The CIA links to numerous scandals and murky political processes, in violation of congressional and constitutional regulations, forced it to set up institutions that would serve as its front to bypass the law.
It was with this purpose that the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) was created in 1983, supposedly conceived to finance civil society development programs in the United States and in Third World countries.
Abundant evidence show that NED actually operates as the financial branch of the CIA, in its dirty work with political parties and organizations, trade unions and non-governmental organizations from other countries.
The mainstream US media has unveiled its mysterious role. In a New York Times article, dated March 31, 1997, journalist John M. Broder wrote:
"The National Endowment for Democracy, created 15 years ago to do in the open what the CIA has done surreptitiously for decades, spends $30 million a year to support political parties, labor unions, dissident movements and the news media in dozens of countries."
Allen Weinstein, the first chairman of NED, had already disclosed in 1991: "A lot of what we do today was done covertly 25 years ago by the CIA. In effect, the CIA launders money through NED."
It can be assured that there is no subversive operation by the US during the past two decades that has not had Ned's involvement.
The overthrow of the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua was the first target assigned to NED. During the 1980s, it invested more than a billion dollars, first to feed the opposition and the dirty "contra" war, and later to manipulate the electoral process.
Its most recent dirty job to "promote democracy" is related to Venezuela and Cuba.
In the case of Venezuela's Bolivarian revolution, Ned's participation in the conspiracy that led to the failed April 11 coup against President Hugo Chavez has been widely demonstrated.
On the other hand, NED is actively involved in the distribution of the 29 million dollars approved by President Bush for the implementation of its anti-Cuba plan, approved in May 2004. This is an addition to the 7 million approved for the implementation of the US-AID Cuba program, which seeks to train, develop and strengthen a Cuban civil society made up of mercenary groups financed and directed by the US Interests Section in Havana.
Before this money was assigned, another five million had been included in the Program to Assist a Free Cuba, with the idea of developing a "public diplomacy" based on the recruitment of anti-Cuba mercenaries abroad.
All totaled, the funds allotted to overthrow the Cuban revolution, just in 2005, reached 41 million dollars.
These are valid examples that point the finger at the most terrorist government on Earth, the same one that invented money laundering for dirty operations.
