Iraq: A Few Days Before the Election January 27, 2005 Location: Woman's National Democratic Club
Michael O' Hanlon, senior fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, specializes in U.S. defense strategy and budgeting, homeland security, and American foreign policy. He will discuss Iraq just three days before the elections in that country.
Dr. O'Hanlon has written and co-authored articles dealing with security and foreign policy involving Iraq, Afghanistan, and North Korea. Some of his articles have included: Scouring the Iraq Aftermath with Adriana Lins de Albuquerque, and Clinton's Strong Defense Legacy (Foreign Affairs, November/December 2003).
He was an analyst in the Congressional Budget Office from 1989 - 94, and is currently a visiting lecturer at Princeton University from which he also graduated.

Speaker Luncheon: Stephen P. Cohen, How Stable is Pakistan? February 10, 2005 11:30 AM Location: Woman's National Democratic Club
Stephen P. Cohen, senior fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, will answer that question when he discusses his new book, The Idea of Pakistan. Dr. Cohen has been at Brookings since 1998. In 2004 he was named one of the 500 most influential people in the field of Foreign Policy by World Affairs Councils of America.
Prior to his appointment at Brookings, Dr. Cohen taught at the University of Illinois for many years, was a scholar-in-residence at the Ford Foundation in India, and served in the Department of State in the mid 1980's. He regularly appears on national radio and television and has authored many books on South Asia. Dr. Cohen is a graduate of the University of Chicago and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin. His book will be available for purchase.
