112K = -38K Thomas F. Schaller (9:02AM) link I almost fell over just now, when I heard CNN’s morning business reporter, Andy Serwa (sp?), report the Bureau of Labor Statistics' reported November jobs number of 112,000. What shocked me was that he was careful to note that economists generally agree that the economy has to add 150,000 jobs each month to just accommodate the growing labor pool, as people graduate from high school, college or otherwise enter the job market. In other words, in the month before the holiday retail season, when our business-friendly Bush policies ought to be revving things up, 38,000 of the 150,000 new Americans seeking work found none. Or all of them did, and 38,000 people currently working lost their jobs. Or some combination of the two. Whatever the case, this economy is not growing, and Bush has posted yet another sub-150K month. Happy holidays.
