www.sun-sentinel.com/news/opinion/letters/sfl-pbbr521feb04,0,4716571.story?coll=sfla-news-letters This war unlike any we've fought Abe Bailis Delray Beach February 4, 2006 Ever since U.S. Rep. John Murtha proposed that our troops be withdrawn from Iraq, he and those who agree with him have been slandered as harmful to the morale of those troops. The anger of Murtha was addressed to the lies and deceit of those who brought our troops to Iraq. His homage to the loving concern for our fighting forces is unquestionable. Many of our troops, being citizens first and warriors second, probably wonder -- as do tens of millions of us on this far side of the battlefield(s) -- why we are still in Iraq when the dreaded Saddam Hussein has long been drowned out by the war drums of Iran, Korea and other "god-fearing" nations? The war we are in is unlike any we have ever fought before. Patriotic fanaticism may lead to a disregard or reinterpretation of the Constitution when it suits the powers-that-be. If it is agreed to by a compliant Supreme Court, watch out! The other fanaticism we are faced with is much more formidable: When a leader claims to have a connection to a higher power, watch out! Our leader, in an interview with Bob Woodward, pointed heavenward to a higher "father" from whom he got advice. He made it clear that he wasn't referring to his dad.
