Joschka Fischer Expresses Support for Israeli Apartheid Wall
"MP Nazir was speaking on the sideline of an international conference for dialogue amongst religions.."
GAZA CITY - The Palestinian ambassador to Germany, Abdullah Al-Efranji, criticized yesterday the German FM, Joschka Fischer's remarks over the Israeli Apartheid Wall, in which the latter believed that the wall has some positive effects.
Al-Efranji said that such remarks are conflicting with underway peace efforts to reach a peaceful settlement and that such a rhetoric would cement Israel's nuclear power.
"it's a bad indication as Israel continues to ignore the rights of non-Jews and mistreat the Palestinians, who are still under the Israeli occupation, thus Israel is not a democratic state", Al-Efranji was quoted as saying.
In his meeting with a group of young people in Berlin, ambassador Al-Efranji reiterated the fact that the International Court of Justice in the Hague along with the human rights organizations have acknowledged that construction of the wall has been illegal and that it would block rise of an independent contingent Palestinian state.
In the meantime, member of the British House of Lords, Nazir Ahmad, said that the Israeli Apartheid Wall, being constructed in and through the West Bank is one of the main obstacles, facing the two-state solution for both Palestine and Israel.
MP Nazir was speaking on the sideline of an international conference for dialogue amongst religions in Gaza City yesterday, adding that the Palestinian prisoners issue is one more obstacle in the face of peace.
"The Palestinian people are fighting legitimately to drive out the Israeli occupation, which has got a nuclear power, a sophisticated army and warplanes", Mr. Nazir explained.
In a related note, deputy-foreign minister of Italy, Frido Manteca, who was visiting the Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis yesterday, stressed that the Palestinian people have been in great need for more services that enable them to live properly.
Manteca, who toured at the Nasser hospital of Khan Younis, which has been heavily engaged in medicating hundreds of Palestinian wounded who were injured by Israeli occupation soldiers throughout the past four years of the Intifada, confirmed his country would keep up backing the Palestinian people.
