It's around $2.03 for regular in northern MA and southern NH. Driving back from Delaware last week I saw it at $2.48! It was on the Jersey Turnpike, and was for premium full service, but still...$2.48! As the proud owners of two 3-cylinder Geo Metros, it won't bother me or my wife until it hits four or five bucks, but I feel sorry for the Lincoln Navigator owners. I'm lying. I jeer at them! At gas stations I smirk and ask them how much they spend a week! BWAHAWHAWHAW!

Before Bush took office it took me $20. to fill my tank. Now it costs me $40.00. This is a huge problem for me and others. People are having to choose between food, which has also increased so much that there is a huge reduction in the food people can afford to buy, and gas to get to work or school.

Here, about a block from my house its $2.33 for regular unleaded and $2.55 for premium.
There are cheaper places, but not much.

Haven't the Europeans been paying around a dollar a liter for gas-for the past three decades or so? This may be another aspect of the global economy that we will enjoy more and more of as things trickle down. Or it could be a simple case of price gouging which will continue, as I don't believe that fuel costs are more than an incidental expense to the elites. Of course, the petro industry may be diverting funds toward a more rational system of transportation, exploring less damaging and more efficient systems that will improve the quality of all our lives.

Another really frightening thing about the "centrist" neocon "new democrats" is their being in favor of regressive taxation through innumerable user fees. This is becoming a horrendous burden on the lower-incomed people.
I fear Kerry will be in favor of these, like gas taxes.

I wonder when the concept of "progressive taxation" died out for them? 80s or 90s? Besides, they could have the best alternative energy program in the world, but if the technology doesn't come into common usage because people have money to pay for it, then it's worthless as a solution. Personally, I'm paying $2.25/gallon.

I think the people who say the "Oil Age" is over are right. Unless we're able to pump out a couple of dozen huge refineries on the quick and cheap the demand from China and India will send prices so high that we're forced to use something else...and you know it's going to be coal.
Our atmosphere will be toast.
Nuke plants would work if we could figure out what to do with the waste. They take about 15 or 20 years to build, though, and nobody big is making any moves in that direction.
Over the next 10 years I see gasoline prices tripling.
