www.guardian.co.uk/business/story/0,3604,1540392,00.html After Murdoch dies or cedes control of News Corporation, its president and chief operating officer, Peter Chernin, is set to become chief executive. He is later meant to hand over power to one of Mr Murdoch's children. The New York Times said that although Lachlan acquired the title of deputy chief operating officer, he was anything but Mr Chernin's deputy. "After the two initially clashed when Lachlan went to Los Angeles to learn the News Corporation's television business several years ago, their contact was limited and chilly, according to people close to both Lachlan and his father," the paper reported. Undoubtedly the hand of Mr Chernin, who joined the News Corporation in 1989 and assumed his current post in 1996, has been strengthened.
