Release Date: November 10, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Discontinuance of M3 On March 23, 2006, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System will cease publication of the M3 monetary aggregate. The Board will also cease publishing the following components: large-denomination time deposits, repurchase agreements (RPs), and Eurodollars. The Board will continue to publish institutional money market mutual funds as a memorandum item in this release. Measures of large-denomination time deposits will continue to be published by the Board in the Flow of Funds Accounts (Z.1 release) on a quarterly basis and in the H.8 release on a weekly basis (for commercial banks). www.federalreserve.gov/releases/h6/discm3.htm

M3 money supply - M2, plus large time deposits, repos of maturity greater than one day at commercial banks, and institutional money market accounts. M2 money supply - M1, plus savings and small time deposits, overnight repos at commercial banks, and non-institutional money market accounts. I think I understand that this is part of a camouflage of the coming credit collapse. They don't seem to care about this sort of spin doctoring, perhaps because economics is not glamorous enough tto lead the nightly news. Maybe they no longer have to even pretend they give a d**n. 11-15-05 Good info, it's sort of a federally funded "pump and dump" to artificially hold inflation at bay while ripping off the small investors.

I don't understand why there has been no comment from the financial pundits about this-- don't they use M3 figures in understanding the economy and trends?
