I often pose the question to the people I end up having the conversation about illegal drugs with.
That is, Wouldn't even Wal-Mart be jealous of the distribution system that the slimy, low-life drug dealers have? That is, illegal drugs can be found on nearly any corner of any street in America. How are the drug dealers that efficient?
The answer, of course, is that (to me, obviously) our government has a hand in it.
The local cops occasionally make a drug-bust of a low-life for photo-ops, thereby proving that they are "tough on drugs".
They bottom-feed for the users to punish, and look away at the ship loads that enter our country.

This Administration operates in a way so similar to organized crime, and at least in the case of Abramoff, it has come out that they are involved with organized crime. They certainly haven't been prosecuting organized crime, but as you say, find excuses for "more security" -- while never addressing any real security concerns.
