Since we're already overextended in Iraq, wouldn't letting another invasion or two happen be a way to bring this stuff to an end more quickly?
One of the known historical ways for an empire to fall is to overextend itself. Yes, I'm against war, and no, I don't want to see more needless deaths, but I think the best way is to get this whole thing over with, and it might be that we're just not quite overextended enough yet. So if AIPAC can manage to pull off a few more unwarranted military aggressions, particularly against countries that have strong defenses and many allies.....
Yeah, I get these negative moods sometimes.

Some suspect that the reason for the sudden wind-change from the AIPAC/Israeli controlled pols who now voice criticism of the war is that the bog-down in Iraq has put a crimp in their plans to do away with Iran and Syria.

And it may be that Israel is itching to nuke their neighbors, and the US troops are in the way.

The U.S. Army, since the time of Grant, has tried to use the enormous industrial base of the United States, with it's huge productivity of munitions, as a substitute for manpower on the ground. The introduction of the M-16 in the sixties, was a direct attempt to use massive firepower as a balance against numbers. It now seems to me that the military is prepared to use neutron bombs as an extension of this operational policy. It leaves the loot intact and kills off all the Enemies of Freedom.

Ah, but afterward you have to have boots on the ground to collect the loot. And if you use a neutron bomb, chances are that when you send them in, yours are unlikely to be the only boots on the ground. Every other country knows that if you get away with that once, you can do it again at will, anywhere. Bush-the-uniter has united most of the world against the U.S., and that would convince the few hold-outs. Perhaps the reason for my dark mood is that I can't understand why this regime hasn't already collapsed. Once the good-guys/bad-guys myth collapses, it seems that there aren't any good guys. Am I missing something here?

These morons believe that they can bribe, scare or kill any opponent to their thievery. They don't care about a realistic military solution, hoping that they can wing it on through with a motley collection of boot-lickers and fellow thieves.
