The new installment of the Dean Dozen includes four women running important races for Congress, two mayoral candidates, two incumbent state legislators and one challenger, a progressive for the Texas Supreme Court and candidates for county seats in DeKalb County, Georgia and DeKalb County, Indiana.
These twelve are fighting to take our country back from the special interests. They are working to protect our civil liberties. They are building communities and encouraging economic growth. They are fiscally responsible. And they are supported by the grassroots!
The Dean Dozen are...
Kalyn Free for United States Congress from Oklahoma. A member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Kalyn has won the support of Democracy for America because the grassroots want her to win the July 27 primary. We join many of our brothers and sisters in organized labor, our colleagues in the environmental movement, and Emily's List in supporting Kalyn Free. www.freeforcongress.com
Tom Potter for Mayor of Portland, Oregon. On the strength of local Democracy for America volunteers in Portland, Tom came in first in his recent 21-way primary with 43% of the vote - after being outspent nearly 12-to-1. That's unprecedented. Now he heads into the general election looking for national DFA support. www.tomformayor.org
Alisha Thomas Morgan for Georgia General Assembly. Running for re-election, 25-year old Representative Morgan is the first African-American to serve in the General Assembly from Cobb County (home of former Congressmen Newt Gingrich and Bob Barr.) www.alishathomas.com
Samara "Sam" Barand for United States Congress from New York. The 29th Congressional District is an open race this year. Sam Barand is an energetic, young candidate capable of winning the seat for the Democrats. She has united the DFA grassroots and a victory will mean economic development for New York's Southern Tier. www.samaraforcongress.com
Peter Corroon for Salt Lake County, Utah Mayor. Encouraged by his cousin - Howard Dean - Peter is running for county mayor. As a fiscally responsible Democrat he is campaigning against an incumbent who runs the county like a "mini-Enron." Governor Dean will be campaigning with him Memorial Day weekend. www.votecorroon.com
Vicki Walker for Missouri State House. A 100% record on pro-union, pro-education, environmental and women's issues, Vicki is the kind of leader Howard Dean respects. Get involved and help her win re-election. www.electvickiwalker.com
David Van Os for Texas Supreme Court. Grassroots activists are strongly behind progressive David Van Os. The Texas Supreme Court is 100% Republican and it's time to take it back - one seat at a time. www.vanosforsupremecourt.com
Patrick McCormick for DeKalb County (Indiana) County Council. Inspired by the grassroots of the Dean for America campaign, Patrick has answered Howard Dean's call and is running for local office. His is a grassroots campaign and every little bit of help goes a long, long way. www.mccormickfordekalb.com
Jonathan Bing for New York Assembly. Manhattan needs representatives like Jonathan Bing in Albany. That's why Howard Dean is kicking off Jonathan's re-election campaign with a reception in New York tonight! www.bing2004.com
Christine Cegelis for United States Congress from Illinois. Are you tired of Henry Hyde? Christine Cegelis is and she and the DFA grassroots are taking him on in the Illinois 6th. This first time citizen candidate has won support from local MeetUps and is looking for more. www.cegelisforcongress.com
Don McDaniel for Georgia General Assembly. This Meetup host and co-founder of Georgia for Democracy is running a grassroots campaign in Ralph Reed's home district. Don is a first time candidate, inspired by Howard Dean to make a difference in his community. www.electdonmcdaniel.com
Nelson Thompson for Cumberland County (New Jersey) Freeholder. IUPAT District Council 711's own Nelson Thompson seeks the county seat to represent the working men and women of New Jersey. In this race every vote counts. Contact Nelson at nelsonthompson@msn.com to learn more and get involved.
