Wow Moses that's quite a flurry of replies. "The Real Matrix" essay is sort of an abstract of G. Edward Griffin's "The Creature From Jekyll Island: Taking A Second Look At The Federal Reserve", which Yates cites. And Yates brings some of the same "John Birch Society" conservatism/libertarianism to his essay which Griffin peppers through 'Jekyll Island'. I did not read "Trajedy and Hope" and likely won't outside of reviews of it, but I did read 'Jekyll Island' and political nit picking aside, it's a terrific book if you want to understand how money works, where we've been and where we're headed. Check the amazon reviews for more (and check T & H's reviews while you're there). There's also a lengthy documentary (~3 hours, I think) called "The Money Masters" readily available for download, which delves into the nature and history of currencies and the secret societies who control it... and with it, governments & nations.
Separately, another appeal to be sensitive to the outcome of posting a string of short replies to a thread, and/or posting a given story to multiple subject categories. It crowds out the "10 most recent posts" page... which is my means of checking in here. Using the "modify" function rather than adding numerous new replies would help remedy the problem.
I'm afraid one factor in DD's stagnant growth is likely the structure of the BBS. I don't know how much control proboards gives you, but upping the "most recent" page to say, 50 most recent while collapsing the text to show just subject lines; as well as moving the "most recent" link to the top of the homepage instead of being hidden in small font at the bottom, would really make the board easier to become aquainted with, navigate and find a comfy home in.... drawing in new contributors more readily. As it stands, with 43 subject categories having much overlap, and the "most recent" page set at a stingy 10 items which turn over completely +/- once a day; it's very easy to miss posts which may be of interest.
Please don't take this the wrong way, the work you put into DD is tremendous, and an un-whipped political messageboard which is robust would be a big winner for everyone.. thus my suggestions.

re: short posts-- often i am reading between other activities and sometime alot of time elapses even in midst of same article so I post while there just in case by the time i get back i forgot the thought or point or info.
Proboards does structure the Board in terms of text collapsing and positioning -- board format, however, we do have control of the number of categories, etc.
I would welcome yr suggestions in terms of eliminating or consolidating categories. (either here or dd mail).
I'll check into the possibilities jfor the "most recent" category--
thanks. Welcome yr suggestions.
When we set up the categories we were trying to overcome the Dem Party frame of issues, but it is a bit cumbersome, I agree.

There doesn't seem to be a way to alter the settings for the "recent posts" search function. There doesn't seem to be a way to get at it at all.
One of the things we are waiting for is for Proboards to fix their group email function, that has problems after the upgrade, due to incompatibility. They haven't completed upgrading all their boards yet, but presumably will fix it. Alot of people rely on email notification to check the board for news. Likewise, alot of people check for news w/o posting, due to current fears about enforcement of group think by various parties. That's ok too, because it is hard to find a source for news that isn't sponsored by special interest groups. Also we allow guests to post and remain unregistered for the same reason.

Ok-- I found that there is a way to set the # of posts for recent posts and I changed it to 15 to correspond w/ their setting of # of posts/page -- let me know what # of posts you would like to see for recent posts and I can change that, also if you would like to change # of posts per page.

Back to Quigley-- I would like to read the book because it corresponds w/ my personal experience w/ Roundtables and War Profiteers on Wall Street boards funding Bolsheviks and the Anglophilia connection etc.
