This is the party platform development thread for veterans issues. Here are a couple of ideas that I've had:
1) Increase funding for the VA and try to do something about the bureaucracy that makes it difficult for veterans to get the care that they've been promised.
2) Make it easier to use GI Bill money once it's been earned. For that matter $10K (increased to $20K) really doesn't go that far in terms of education like it used to. Perhaps an entirely different/better scheme of paying for veterans' education would be in order.
Other ideas?

There has to be less red tape about trying to prove illnesses and injuries were service connected.
Stuff like DU illness and what not, much like Agent Orange, is something the government knew about beforehand, and tries desperately to not deal with when maladies present themselves in veterans.
I think this goes back to military accountability, in that the military, like all government functions, are supposed to answer to the people who pay them. In addition, the corporations that develop dirty weapons should be regulated and accountable as well.
There has got to be some kind of regulation regarding the use of certain weapons. I've said this before. If you regulate the production of weapons systems, such as DU cored shot, and require disclosure as to the effects of these weapons, then vets would have no problem with obtaining care for illnesses that come from these weapons
I know, redundant and run-on, but I need to get this crap out somewhere.
Peace.

I agree with you of course on the issue of cutting red tape for veteran's services, but I'm also going to need some numbers to help flesh this out into a platform position.
Do you know of any veterans' groups that have an online presence that could provide me with some statistics? If not, I'll add it to the list of things I'm searching for.

Thanks a lot. I'll examine all of them. Here's another big one (although this could fit into several categories at once): "We are adamant in our opposition to drafting or forced conscription."
