Thanks for the input Ropegun. I don't know what to expect as to how/if these guns'll grow on me and whether I'll have similar nits to pick down the road. I bought Saturday, haven't shot either yet. I went to a rifle range in Boulder yesterday with the 9mm, but didn't realize they closed at 4, and I didn't get to shoot! And it's only open to the public on the weekends. I just made good on my threat to stock up on some heat coz I see things unravelling pretty quickly in the coming months, post Katrina & whatever else TPTB have in store for us in their efforts to crash the economy; and we could see a "run" on choice guns, like a run on the banks. I do believe guns will be confiscated at some point, so I was just looking to plug the hole between now and then when chaos and anarchy my reign supreme. What do you think of the 9mm choice, in terms of 9mm ammo becoming high demand after TSHTF? I was teetering between a 9 and a 357 as 357 can also shoot .38 ammo... but alas the 9 seems to be the most popular-- so the ammo will be the most compatible "barter currency". Also, what's with having all those clips? The Springfield XD 9mm comes with 2 15-round clips. I don't forsee being in a Butch Cassidy situation, just having some credible self/home defense from aggressors. What's the case for keeping so many clips around? I took alot of advice from this thread which you may enjoy: goldismoney.info/forums/showthread.php?t=23596&page=1&pp=30

The case for so many magazines is that you generally want two mags full at any given time. One in your pistol, and one on standby.
You don't want to keep mags loaded all the time, as this will soften the spring, causing malfunctions like failure to feed. Malfunctions can kill you. Trust me on that.
If you have more than two mags, you can rotate them, thus preventing problems.
Keep all this in mind with regards to the shotgun as well. Exercise the spring in the magazing by removing the shells every few weeks.
On other reason for having several pairs of pistol mags is that you can keep different types of ammo loaded.
9mm will probably be in high demand if the ballon goes up, as will most other types of ammo.
This is why some people hoard and reload and whatnot. I like the reloading thing because, as I said earlier, it allows for customization of the round.
Bear in mind that I think the choices you made were pretty d**n good. You should have no trouble keeping bad guys away with those.
Peace.
