from whatreallyhappened.com, uncredited but generally I expect this means it was authored by Mike Rivero, blogger dude. Funny I assumed this puritanical bbs (which a while ago forced users to enter (allege?) their birth date, "to conform with US laws, lol) would have a problem with the word 'piss' and before even previewing this post, I edited the word out replacing it with 'P.' Upon previewing, I see I don't need to.
Piss. piss. PISS. yee haw! ;D

WELL, WHAT CAN WE DO TO PISS OFF THE MUSLIMS TODAY?
In recent weeks, a series of supposedly unrelated incidents underscores what appears to be a pattern of intentional provocations of Muslims.
First, there was the story of US Interrogators defacing Korans, tearing them up, and in some cases flushing them down the toilet. What made the story seem odd at the time NEWSWEEK reported it was that this was old news, with other magazines such as Harper's and organizations such as the International Red Cross going back to 2002. When the NEWSWEEK story touched off anti-American riots, NEWSWEEK backed off the story with limp apology, but notably did not actually retract the story. This just made matters worse, as it appeared that NEWSWEEK was now caving to pressure from the White House to cover the mess up.
Then there were the photos of Saddam in his underwear. Expressed US concerns over Geneva Protocols regarding humiliation of prisoners came across as hollow platitudes to everyone who had seen the Abu Ghraib photos.
Then there was the story coming out of Afghanistan of how a taxi driver even the interrogators thought was innocent had his legs beaten and was then hung by his wrists until he died.
Senator Gordon Smith made headlines (in the foreign press only) by stating in no uncertain terms what most knowledgeable observers already knew; that the US stands behind Israel and is NOT in any way a neutral party to the Mideast peace protest. Smith stated flat out that the US' first interest is to secure Israel, with statehood for Palestine "only if possible".
Laura Bush had not originally planned to stop in Israel on her recent trip through the Mideast, but added Israel at the last moment, and made a visit to the Temple Mount, including Al Aqsa Mosque. The Israeli protesters demanding Pollard's release may have been a surprise, but that there would be Muslim anger was predictable since it was Sharon's visit to the mount in October 2000 that had provoked the Intifada. Some observers have speculated that this was Sharon's real purpose for the trip.
So, all unrelated events, yet clearly the Muslim anger towards the US is being provoked and fanned. Why?
Sources continue to report that Bush and his Neocon advisors are planning more wars in the Mideast, with Iran leading the list because of Israel's desire to bomb the Iranian reactor complex before the Russians can begin the fueling process. But the people of the United States are weary of war, weary of flag-draped coffins, weary of tax dollars vanishing into thin air by the billions. Half of all Americans know Bush lied about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. Most Americans don't think Iraq has been worth the cost. Adding a new war on top of the existing ones means a draft, as the current forces are stretched thin. The American people are not going to like that either.
So, the war hawks need a new "event", a new 9-11, which they hope will restore public support for more wars. And, if one is going to stage a new fake terror event and frame Muslims for it, then one has to create the impression that Muslims are angry enough to do something like that. Too much doubt exists about 9-11 in the public mind for half measures; the next staged event has to be a real convincer! Hence, a series of small incidents that slowly increase Muslim anger towards America.
Somewhere, in the dark rooms where the next "terror" attack is being planned, one of the Bush/Neocon planners is asking, "What can we do to piss off the Muslims today?"
...
edit: also see, Is it time for Bush to press the panic button?
