Reporter said killed in Baghdad raid Apr. 15, 2006 at 11:55AM
An unarmed Iraqi cub reporter was among those killed in a controversial Baghdad raid last month, The Washington Post reported Saturday.
The newspaper said Kamal Manahi Anbar, 28, was enrolled in a training program run by the London-based Institute for War and Peace Reporting.
On March 26, Anbar wen to a religious complex in Baghdad's Shaab neighborhood to conduct interviews with Shiites displaced from their homes.
When U.S. and Iraqi forces arrived in armored vehicles, Anbar hid in one home, but was shot through the right cheekbone when he tried to flee, the Post quoted eyewitnesses as saying.
The U.S. military later announced that 16 insurgents were killed, a hostage was rescued and 18 people detained.
A U.S. military spokesman told the Post he had no knowledge of an unarmed civilian killed in the raid.
