After visiting some of the more popular sites here in cyber-space, I am filled with the kind of rage that causes me to weep. How is it that the candidates, having a forum that all the world can hear and see, remain silent in the face of state sanctioned crimes every bit as evil as any commited by the nazis? Why does most of the press of Europe give widespread coverage to the crimes of depleted uranium, the starvation of palistinians, the continued slaughter in Africa, yet the american press expresses grattitude that "we" are not making a public display of dead bodies as the recent outrage in Iraq has done? How can the fascist morons care so much about "protecting" the unborn, and yet ignore the millions of children in this country going without medical, dental ,or any nurturing care that would help them to be happy adults? This flame is slightly off the mark, in that the prose on this site is uniformly tolerant, in the sense of decorum. So I aim my barbs at those not even here. Peace to all.

Karpomrx, you have just written the most well-mannered flame I've ever come across in cyberspace.
Your anger and tears sound more like despair to me. Join the club. It ain't a happy one though.
There is much to despair over and America is certainly the easiest nation to blame for it. But what ABOUT those "other" nations we like to think as more 'civilized' and 'aware'. France, Germany and Canada to name a few, where is THEIR outrage about the decline of American democracy ? They can see it as well as we all do and not much is being said and done on their part to halt the rise of fascism in the US. It is not fear of the bully that keeps them silent. It is sadly in their 'best and special interest' to remain so.
Americans did not massively take to street when Bush stole the residency in 2000 but democratic nations did not openly voice their concerns either. If history repeats itself in 2004 and nations you'd like to think have American citizens best interest at heart opt for silence once more, then my friend, you'll know you're on your own.

Ithink the problem lies with the media-- the same kind of change has occurred here in terms of media ownership as occurred in Germany, with the media owners and the politicians being partners in bringing about their agenda here.

In italy there is media/government collusion. Berlusconi, the prime minister owns many of the TV stations in Italy.
Here in France people are concerned with the fall of democracy in the USA and the impact this is going to have on the world. A lot of people here in France detest the government of BushII, even many people who support the right wing UMP party (this party is closer to the economic policy of the Democrats of today in the USA, but it is the right wing here in France) usually dislike BushII, much of this sentiment stems from BushII's lack of respect for l'ONU (the UN). This does not mean that the French dislike Americans or our consumer goods (to an extent with the goods), most French people are more evolved and see no reason to pour coca cola out in the street because it was made in the USA and they have not changed any names that had the term "American" in them (freedom fries anyone).
PS here we have a real economic left, a strong socialist party (who just won in 21 of 22 regions), 2 small communist parties and a small Green party. We also have health coverage as a right and it costs on average 150 Euros to send your kid to the university for a year. Did I mention that we have nationalized trains as well (the Fastest in the world, perhaps 2nd to Japan now??) We are talking 250 km per hour.
PPS I was born in the USA but left to seek greener pastures, France is quite green in my eyes..... PEACE

Over the past year this site has become one of my main sources of information, sort of an electronic substitute for I.F.Stones Weekly, a sheet which gave me comfort in bygone years. The diversity of news and the broad range of interest found here is a comfort and a pleasure for me. It disturbs me that there are 300,000,000 people in this country, yet, there are less than one hundred signed on here. Why? This place seems to be a natural magnet for persons that do not wish to push and shove a particular point of view. Tolerance is one of my favorite qualities in people, and I know that the people I enjoy share this value. Is it so rare? I don't suggest this site to very many people, and none of those people have seen fit to become active here. I came here from Sucking Chump, at the suggestion of one of the posters, I never look back,as this site is light years beyond the swamp they are stuck in over there. Perhaps it is because there are so many sites to choose from, so that this place is just another tree in a dense forest. In any event-Rock On!

IF Stone's Weekly -- Had a subscription! --
As to Chimpster lack of participation-- not sure of the reason(s)--
There might still be discomfort at the reality that the Israelis/Ariel Sharon really are in control of US policy -- if terrible things were not occuring due to this, it would be less of an issue, but it is catastrophic, and a minimum of tens of thousands of people have died, our domestic policy is this foreign neoconism as well, and our country is ruined, and there are no prospects of hope other than individuals coming to their senses and doing everything they possibly can in terms of speaking out.
The deaths of people don't seem to matter to most?
If the pretense that "it's all about oil" could change things, then that would be fine, too. But as you know from the military, it is key to understand the realities of the situation in order to know what to do about it.
I think most people would rather be led by the nose by the political parties and their cheerleaders, for some reason. Not sure the percentage of people who understand what is going on, is. But of course here in Washington, it IS understood. And plenty of regular people understand it, too-- but in the forums, I guess, one gets followers rather than leaders, unless the leaders are backed by some sinister $$$ and a schpiel.
