www.iww.org/projects/centenary/AMiller05-1.shtml This article reminded me of the power of organizing around labor issues. The place to gain popular movement is in the real bread and butter issues. With the economy headed for the tank real soon, it won't be necessary to argue about philosophy or the kind of "leadership" needed. Labor produces the wealth, and labor should share in that wealth.

As you know, the American worker has been "liberated" from being a wage slaver and we are all now "private contractors" in the "ownership society".
For example, the Comcast workers who connect or repair people's cables (or disconnect them when they don't pay the enormous bill for television reception) are "employed" as "private contractors". This means that they get paid very little -- possibly according to the number of hookups, not sure, but must pay their own gas, parking, social security, and self-employment taxes. They aren't even breaking even, but are losing money.
