In Mississippi I see a vision of this republic's future. The bulk of the populace undernourished, underemployed, and a source of very cheap labor, either with or without pay. The few healthy members of the lower classes serve as military or police, keeping a lid on the whole system, while a very few at the top give speeches to one another about their goodness in serving "the people". A couple of years ago, Castro, in an address to a gathering of African states, offered to send volunteer medical units to assist in helping Miss. As their infant mortality rate and general level of poverty seemed to cry out for international aid. Of course, this offer was not covered in the "press", I heard it on short wave out of Havana.
