Danny Schecter reports:
AND ON THE OTHER CHANNELS
Before the “big shew,” I tuned in to 60 Minutes. Surely, I thought they would counter-program with some hard-hitting segments. But no. They retreated into more audience pandering with a repackaging of segments about big celebrities. It was Bono time once again. Forget about the Enron trial. Lobbygate, the war from hell, or Embassies on fire in the Middle East. 60 Minutes went for ‘superstars.” Show biz, not news biz is in control.
Oh—wait a minute. At least NBC Nightly News did cover Enron last night. They ran a positive story of all the GOOD things the corrupt corporation achieved. One ex-employee was on to wax nostalgically about how they aleays listened to all of his ideas. How nice! Mussolini ran the trains on time.
